Welcome to the Arawa Canoe Club

Who we are

The Arawa Canoe Club is dedicated to kayak racing - mostly medium to long distance races on grade 2 to 2+ whitewater, and flat water races, from sprints up to marathon distance.  Over 450 members cover the spectrum from very social to very competitive and are well supported with training sessions, race programmes and great facilities in the heart of Christchurch.

Our building is on the edge of the Avon River, has storage for 165 kayaks, and has showers and changing facilities (separate mens and women's!), gym, kayak ergs, kitchen and a big meeting room.  We have a range of club kayaks available to members to get them going, and to get them going higher up the competitive ladder.

We're BACK!

The Avon & Heathcote Rivers are back in business!  The CDHB issued a media release on 10th November stating that the Christchurch Waterways are able to be used recreationally once again.

This is great news for Arawa.  This means our coaching sessions can resume (stay posted for that) and we will have a central hub for our Club once again.

If you would like storage at the Club, please email Bianca - membership@arawacanoeclub.org.nz

We are expecting a huge influx of people wanting storage. Please DO NOT put your boat back in the Club if you have not paid this years invoice (or you are unsure) or if you have given up your spot. Spaces have been reallocated, and will continue to be, so you will need to contact Bianca to get a new spot (or make sure your old one is available).  You can check the Storage List new shed / old shed to see where your boat is (or should be).

We currently have about $20k outstanding in subs and storage, so those all paid up will get priority.

Just a reminder also, BOTH of the doors to the club are functioning but the changing rooms/toilets/showers are out of bounds (and locked up). We are currently in discussions with CCC about getting our Port a Loo back.

Training Sessions on Xmas Holiday!

These will restart the week of 9th January, with the Tuesday session on the 10th, Beginners session on the 11th and Weedcatchers/Time Trials on the 12th.

Event summary

The club aims to provide members with a variety of events that collectively will entertain, challenge, and improve their kayaking skills, and have a good time doing so. The bulk of our members are multisporters, so there is no end of advice and guidance available on all sorts of related topics. The club is also becoming a national force in flatwater racing - sprint and marathon distances, in K1's, K2's and K4's.
